Blackjack is a card game played between the player and a dealer. The goal is to get a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer without going over. Unlike pure luck-based games, Blackjack puts decisions in the player's hands — Hit, Stand, Double Down, or Split — and each choice directly affects the outcome.

The basics of how Blackjack is played
The Deal
The player and dealer each receive 2 cards. One of the dealer's cards is face up, the other is face down. The player can only see their own 2 cards.
Hit or Stand
Hit — take one more card. Stand — stay with your current total. If your total exceeds 21, you Bust and lose that round.
Double Down
After your first 2 cards, you can double your bet and take exactly one more card. If your hand is strong, this is a chance to double your winnings.
Split
If your first 2 cards are the same value, you can split them into 2 separate hands and play each one individually. If you split Aces, you only receive one additional card per hand.
Insurance
If the dealer's face-up card is an Ace, you can place an Insurance bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, Insurance pays out. If not, you lose the Insurance bet. In most strategic situations, Insurance is best avoided.
Blackjack and Push
If both you and the dealer get Blackjack at the same time, it is a Push — your bet is returned. If only you have Blackjack and the dealer does not, you are paid 1.5x your bet.

The core decision rules are —
- Stand on Hard 17 or above.
- Double Down on 11 against a dealer showing 2–10.
- Always Split Aces and 8-8; never Split 10-10 or 5-5.
- When the dealer shows 4, 5, or 6, lean toward Standing — the dealer is likely to Bust.
- Hit more aggressively when the dealer shows 7 or above — the dealer has a strong chance of making a good hand.
- A soft hand (with an Ace) gives you more room to Hit or Double; you cannot Bust on the first hit.
